White sneakers are a commitment. With ten minutes a month, they can look new for years. Here is our routine.
Leather
Wipe with a damp microfibre cloth after each wear. Once a month, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush, then condition with a leather balm. Stuff with paper while they dry, never near a radiator.
Canvas
Remove the laces and scrub with a toothbrush and a baking-soda paste. Rinse, air dry and finish with a water-repellent spray.
Suede
Suede hates water. Brush dry dirt off with a suede brush, lift stains with a suede eraser and refresh the nap with a steam kettle held at a distance. Protect with a suede spray before the first wear.
Never
- Never put sneakers in the washing machine — it destroys the glue.
- Never use bleach on white leather; it yellows.
- Never dry them in direct sun.
